This week we had the first initiative in our faculty under the digital humanities flag, one of many to come. 

What did I learn? That digital humanities is not only about handling huge data sets (huge like in the 1.000.000 manga pages in this article by the Lev Manovich team) but also about handling complex information types. Or at least about the need to handle complex information types. The examples I recall are manuscripts with previous texts still on it ("lost writing" when presented on a website as flat texts), handcrafted and/or annotated books and especially the poem by Burns that Andrew Prescott used in his talk which had all kinds of "goods" (very much as in "Manga goods") associated with it. All examples of complex texts, of visual intertextuality that can't be adequately digitized at the moment.
